Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2016
Following the footsteps of Cristobal Balenciaga
Vetements’ Demna Gvasalia presented his debut collection as Balenciaga’s new creative director in a huge television studio in Paris. Gvasalia was inspired by the couture designs of Cristobal Balenciaga and his 360 degrees approach while working with his clients. “It’s important to know the past to feel the future,... but you can’t drive a car looking in the rear-view mirror” the designer said after his show. In the first part of the show, there were structured pieces from blazer jackets and trenchcoats to parkas and dresses. But nothing was a styling trick, as the designer said, all was built into “the architecture of the garment.” The second part of the show was filled with beautiful florals. Demna Gvasalia presented a complete collection for any occasion, just like Balenciaga would do, but in new shapes and forms. It was one of the most exciting collections of the season!
