Maureen Chiquet Is Leaving as CEO of Chanel
Due to Differences of Strategic Opinions
Chanel’s global CEO, Maureen Chiquet, is ending her nine-year tenure with the company at the end of this month following a difference of opinion over the direction of the company. The news of Chiquet's departure came just a day after Chanel exhibited its latest haute couture collection in Paris. Chiquet’s role will be replaced by one of the company's co-owners, French billionaire Alain Wertheimer, although his statement suggested that the move may be a permanent rather than just an interim measure. American Chiquet started her career at L'Oréal and also worked for fashion group The Gap from 1988 until 2003. The fashion industry reacted with surprise to her transfer to Chanel and rise to the position of CEO. For the time being, there is no additional information about a future new position for Chiquet.
