Jane Birkin Tells It All
About Film, Serge and Fashion
The style icon of all, actress, singer, and muse to Serge Gainsbourg and Jacques Doillon; mother of Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lou Doillon, and the late Kate Barry, inspiration behind the Hermes iconic Birkin bag, Jane Birkin has talked with Rebecca Bengal of Vogue US in a recent interview. She talked about how she never says ‘I’ and uses ‘we’ instead which made her mother crazy, how she love the movie Mustang and will watch it for the fourth time with her grandchildren, the time she became iconic in her might be Saint Laurent basket and boys’ shirts in 1968 with Serge beside her. Now, there is a chance to see the movies of Birkin again alongside the most provocative films of her daughter Charlotte, in the Lincoln Center’s retrospective that will screen their films including Charlotte in two films from Lars von Triers’s Depression trilogy; Jane alongside Serge in Slogan, alongside Joe Dallesandro in Je t’Aime Moi Non Plus; Jane and Charlotte in Agnès Vardas’s Jane B. for Agnes V. and Kung Fu Master!. The retrospective where Birkin and Gainsbourg will also appear at several screenings will run until February 10 at Furman Gallery at the Walter Reade Theater.
