“Moonage Daydream”

Yesterday Christian Dior kicked off Haute Couture week in Paris with a psychedelic collection mixing styles and fabrics that resembled the 1970’s and 1960’s.  Inspired by music with a specific focus on David Bowie, Raf Simons – the brand’s designer for the last three years – unveiled a collection that modernized the vintage sartorial practices of haute couture.  Models wore ultra-mini skirts and transparent plastic capes as they strutted to Bowie’s Stardust album in a room filled with white scaffolding and mirrors inside an utopian construction site located in the grounds of a historic museum. A big step outside the maison’s comfort zone, this collection was definitely the perfect balance between retro and modern. Just like the venue that the show took place in, the looks were multifaceted but proceeded to work together anyway.
