Spontaneous expressionism

k

As Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough started imagining the ideal woman for their 2015 collection, they were immediately inspired by the works of abstract expressionists – especially Helen Frankenthaler. The show took place at the Whitney Museum  -which was the current fit for the DNA of the Autumn/Winter collection - currently empty waiting for the show in 2016. Along with Frankenthaler’s canvases, the designers also took inspiration from 1940’s art openings and Morris’ wall hangings. The collection featured off-the-shoulder tops and matching midi skirts that looked liked they had been painted with black rollers and knit dresses that were embroidered with thousands of sequins. Each and every piece from the collection succeded in becoming an artwork itself – just like their inspirations. The rawness was also evident with slashed fabrics and cut-out motifs that exposed just the right amount of skins. The designers took a great risk in this collection with a huge amount of experimentalism – and it would be safe ( maybe the only safe thing about the collection) to say that it proved to be a great success.
