ART , PARDON OUR FRENCH

Interview: Niv Asa

A discussion about jazz, passion, happiness and life.

How did you discover your interest towards music?

It was there since childhood. Just had to find the right kind, and it came naturally

How does the need to balance your currently career in chemistry affect your attitude towards music and art?

I listen, attend gigs, see art as much as I can, and read more to balance it out. It eases the tedious repetitiveness.

With the latest developments in Internet, music has been much more easier to reach for all the masses. What is your opinion on the democratization of music?

I don't believe that much has changed, the media and live music has been there all along, now it is only easier to find what your looking for. The quality has gotten better but I still believe that analog music is much better still.

What has been your most memorable concert up to date?

There are so many to name. I remember catching Brad Mehldau Trio at  the legendary Village Vanguard. It was my first time in that club. I imagined how it would be listening to Bill Evans Trio back in the day.

Being affiliated with music shapes a diverse perception of sound. How does Istanbul sound to you?

Istanbul is chaotic, noisy and messy; but there are always good sounds if you know what you're looking for; such as church bells, the horn of a ship, the tram’s bell, horse galloping on the island, seagulls..

Do you collect anything?

Not intentionally.

Do you have any personal principles when dressing up?

There are no rules or principles, whatever pleases my eye.

What brand name appears the most in your wardrobe and why?

COS; since it is simple, stylish and not overdone.

Favorite item of clothing?

Blazer
