Pierre Bergé's Big Art Auction
Sotheby's partners with former Yves Saint Laurent designer Pierre Bergé to auction rare books
Former couture designer Pierre Bergé is putting about 150 of his rare books up for auction on Dec. 11 in Paris. The former couture boss, 85, has amassed a collection of some 1,600 titles, including musical scores and manuscripts spanning six centuries. The sale will be conducted by Pierre Bergé & Associés in collaboration with Sotheby's at Drouot. Six more auctions are to follow in 2016 and 2017, because Bergé's collection is so expansive. His collection is said to comprise 1,600 titles and now a selection of the most special lots for the first auction have been unveiled, include a first edition of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island dated 1883, and works in their original languages by the likes of Edgar Allan Poe, William Shakespeare and James Joyce and their contemporaries. The first batch is going on display at Sotheby's in New York from September 10 to 13, reports WWD, following showcases in Hong Kong and London in October and November.
